My Friend Holds No Grudges

Dear Still Waters program,

I would like to share with you a story about forgiveness. It is about a young man by the name of Joseph. He has no legs and walks on artificial limbs, yet he rides a bike and drives a car.

Once he went to drink beer with his friends. Besides beer there was vodka as well. These men drank too much and began to behave in a queer way. It all ended with drunken men dragging this young man into a hayloft, closing the door behind him, and putting it on fire. It was a miracle that Joseph survived, but he lost both of his legs. Unlike me, he holds no grudges towards those people. He forgave them. He says, “Why should I burden my soul with somebody else’s sin? I have enough of my own.”

According to Joseph, the Lord has already repaid each one of them accordingly. One of the men in the group has developed cirrhosis and only has a few months left to live. Another one is hiding. People in the village are absolutely amazed at what they see. They’ve told Joseph multiple times to take revenge on them, but Joseph refuses to do it.
