13 July 2012 - Ministry and media have always gone hand in hand with TWR. Beginning with radio broadcasts from a 2,500-watt transmitter in the 1950s to now mobilizing the revolutionary digital media source known as LinguaDMS and everything in between, TWR has been actively engaged in effectively using the available media of the day to reach as many as possible with the Hope found in Jesus Christ.
“communicating the ministry
of TWR to the world”
Print media has been and continues to be a major form of communicating the ministry of TWR to the world. With upcoming features on youth and media, we decided to have a photo contest using this very theme. Of the three finalists, this photo by Ray Detwiler won by a margin of over 40 votes. Congratulations, Ray!
Get to Know Ray:
I'm a freelance photographer, working in Dallas, USA (as well as other cities throughout the state of Texas). I grew up overseas until I was 19 and then moved back to the US to start college in 2001.
“trying to learn
everything I could”
Toward the beginning of 2004, I discovered a love for photography and started spending a lot of time reading about it and looking at other photographers' work. I lived on Flickr and Photo.net, interacting with people and trying to learn everything I could.
In 2005, I graduated college, moved to Dallas and worked there for three years. In 2008, I was a victim of the economy and was caught in a large round of lay-offs in the company I was with at the time. My friends had been pushing me to pursue photography professionally, so I decided this would be a good opportunity. I started working as a photo assistant to a commercial photographer who had been shooting for 30 years professionally and slowly started building my own client list on the side.
Since then I have had the pleasure of shooting a few really cool assignments, I've traveled a little bit, and I've met a lot of really interesting people.
Once again, congratulations to Ray! We wish him great success in his photography career! Stay connected to our Facebook Page as we will continue to have more contests in the future.
